Polarizing microscopes are used to observe the birefringent properties of anisotropic specimens by monitoring image contrast or colour changes. Both diascopic and episcopic polarizing observations are possible with the Nikon Ci-Pol and the LV100N-POL. Systems for both quantitative and qualitative studies are available.
